‘Tis the season… but for what?
In the U.S., many of us are wrapping up Thanksgiving celebrations, gearing up for Hanukkah, Christmas, or Kwanzaa, and preparing to welcome the New Year. That’s a lot to pack into just six weeks! While nature says “slow down,” our personal and work obligations often say “speed up.”
As humans, we’re part of nature, so maybe it’s time to look to nature for tips on navigating this busy season.
🦦 Hibernate: Some animals sleep through winter, and honestly, that sounds wonderful after a hectic day! While most of us can’t hibernate, we can still carve out restful moments. Book a long massage, soak in a warm bath, or retreat to your favorite spot for some downtime.
🦜 Migrate: Many animals travel to warmer places during winter. Here in Arizona, we see our fair share of “snowbirds” escaping the cold. Even if you can’t take a long trip, find ways to mentally “migrate” to a warm, sunny place. Watch a beach movie, flip through vacation photos, or daydream about summer adventures.
🦊 Adapt: Some animals change their habits or diets in winter, like eating heartier foods or moving a little slower. Give yourself permission to follow nature’s lead—get more rest, enjoy comforting foods, and ease up on your usual pace.
When you feel the urge to hibernate, migrate, or slow down, remember: that’s nature talking. Embrace it, and allow yourself a bit more downtime this season. It just might make the holidays brighter for everyone!
