“That’s just how I’m wired” (and why that’s not true)
“That’s just how I’m wired.”
How many times have you said that—or heard someone on your team say it?
Here’s what neuroscience has proven: it’s not true.

What if you could sit down with your younger self, the one hustling through your professional life, and share what you know now?
Ever feel like your leadership is all action and reaction—but missing something deeper? It’s second nature to lead from the head. But real, sustainable leadership starts from the inside out.
Have you ever caught yourself lying awake at night, replaying a conversation in your mind? You said something in the moment—maybe it wasn’t even harsh, but it landed wrong. And now your mind keeps circling back to that one sentence.
We’ve long idolized resilience in leadership—as if the pinnacle of effectiveness is simply the ability to bounce back, soldier on, and absorb stress like a sponge. But in today’s world of relentless disruption—from organizational upheavals to global crises—merely returning to baseline is not only insufficient, it can be harmful.
I’ll be honest — I’ve been feeling a bit off-center lately. Not burned out, not overwhelmed… just slightly misaligned, like I’ve been moving through my days without quite the clarity or grounded presence I usually rely on. It happens. Even when we know the tools. Even when we teach the tools.
There were a few weeks between the interview and the release date, and as I listen to our interview, I am reminded how enjoyable it was to engage in a thoughtful conversation with Adam Hommey on The Business Creators’ Radio Show with Adam Hommey. I hope you will listen and hear as we talk about:
Is the version of success you’re pursuing still aligned with where you are — and who you are — in this season of life? Being successful isn’t only about what we accomplish — it’s about how we accomplish it. It’s about leading with clarity, presence, and resilience, so that our achievements don’t leave us depleted, but instead sustain us and those around us.
Mindfulness sounds wonderful in theory…but what about real life? Mindfulness isn’t about doing anything new. It’s about shifting how you are. It’s not another task—it’s a different way of experiencing the tasks you already have.
Mindfulness in the workplace isn’t about escaping to a mountaintop or adopting strange practices. It’s about something much more grounded and practical – cultivating present moment awareness to enhance focus, reduce stress, and ultimately, drive success.
